What are you most proud of in your career?
Starting Black Brick in January 2007. It felt like a huge leap of faith moving from a large corporate firm (Knight Frank) to setting up on my own, but being here almost 19 years later with a thriving business is a testament to making that move all those years ago.
First property job and how you got it?
Foxtons! I applied online and within 30 minutes their HR team was on the phone to me and the next thing I knew I was at Foxtons HQ in Chiswick Park at what felt like a big drinks party. Peter Rollings the then Managing Director was standing on an empty crate of beer talking about how they had all just come back from a trip to South Africa for their top performers. I instantly felt like this was a firm I would thrive in, and the rest is history.
What motivates you?
I have always felt passionately about buyer representation. I still get a huge buzz from finding clients their dream home and knowing that I have made a difference to their lives and the way they live.
Best advice for preparing for an interview?
Research the firm, their values and aims. Research the people within the firm – I am always impressed when candidates say they have spent time looking at our website, reading our reports and listening to our podcasts. Think about why you would be a good fit and how you will add value to the firm.
What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?
Don’t be afraid to fail. Take bigger risks.
Which leader, entrepreneur, founder, or CEO inspires you?
Jon Hunt the founder of Foxtons has always been a huge inspiration to me and we are still in touch to this day.
Your best deal?
Acquiring a country estate for a significant client for £29.5m and then managing and overseeing its sale less than two years later for over £40 million.
What’s your favourite restaurant?
Oswald’s private members club in Mayfair.
