In this edition, Richard Douglas, Founder of London House shares personal insights and experiences with anyone who may be currently working in or aspiring to join the London property industry.

1. What are you most proud of in your career?

Without question, it would be developing London House and creating a brand that sits well in a very competitive marketplace.

2. What was your first property job and how did you get it?

Not sure how many people know this, but I was an actor in a former life. Having trained at a well-known drama school, I spent many years treading the boards. I kept getting cast as an estate agent in everything from Murder in Mind for the BBC to Footballers' Wives, so I eventually realised that was my true calling. After a brief stint in LA unsuccessfully auditioning for shows like The O.C., I came back to London, walked into Foxtons, and the rest is history. I was promoted within six months to assistant manager, and in my first full year I instructed more properties than anyone else in the entire company.

3. What motivates you?

My family.

4. What's your best advice for preparing for an interview?

Do your research, find common ground, and be yourself. If you can't find common ground, then it's not the place for you. Remember, no one has more or less power than you — unless you believe it.

5. What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Everything you want is there for the taking. Choose wisely, work hard, and stay focused.

6. Which leader, entrepreneur, founder, or CEO inspires you?

Mikel Arteta. The way he turned the toxic culture at Arsenal around needs to be studied.

7. Your best deal?

I sold a house to my favourite football player on a road I grew up on. I also achieved a record price per square foot for my clients, which still stands in the area. The clients remain close friends of mine, and I've just helped them sell another property on Lowndes Square — again breaking records for price per square foot.

8. What's your favourite restaurant?

Always loved Roka. The Charlotte Street one is my favourite.

9. Apple or Android?

Apple.
