Welcome to our quick-fire spotlight on industry leaders and entrepreneurs in Property.

In this edition, Marc Goldberg, Executive Consultant and Broker at Marcus Parfitt shares personal insights and experiences with anyone who may be currently working in or aspiring to join the London property industry.

What are you most proud of in your career?

In a 30-year stint at Hamptons, I enjoyed a fast rise up the ranks from sales negotiator in Hampstead, to becoming the Head of Sales and Executive Director across the national network. I was most proud of presiding over a golden era at Hamptons surrounded by fantastic people delivering amazing results. Leadership roles followed at Dexters and Marsh & Parsons before I decided to get back to the cut and thrust of selling and acquiring some of North London’s finest homes with Marcus Parfitt, the niche top end of the market firm based in Hampstead.

What was your first property job and how did you get it?

Having finished University, and whilst saving up to go travelling, I was given a temporary job to manage a showflat at a new development in Swiss Cottage by my mother, who was a director at John D Wood at the time. There I got the taste for selling property and never looked back!

What motivates you?

I am lucky enough to have found a profession that I enjoy, where I wake up in the mornings and look forward to going to work. My competitive spirit and a strong sense of responsibility to get results for those who have entrusted their sale or search with me, have been my principal drivers.

What’s your best advice for preparing for an interview?

Bring clarity to why you want the job and what you can bring to the table. Importantly, be yourself, authentic and enthusiastic

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

‘Work Hard, Have Fun and Kick Ass!’ has been my long-term mantra cribbed from the 17-year-old Ellen MacArthur who coined the phrase when asked how she managed to sail around the world single-handed, in a record-breaking time.

Which leader, entrepreneur, founder, or CEO inspires you?

Warren Buffett gets my nod, not least for his philanthropic side whereby he has pledged to give away 99% of his fortune to many great causes.

Your best deal?

Admirals House in Hampstead was one of my earliest sales and must win that accolade. It’s a wonderful and historic Grade II listed house dating back to 1700, painted by Constable several times, and a true landmark in the most desirable part of Hampstead.

What’s your favourite restaurant?

My shortlist: breakfast in the Pavilion at Lords on a Test Match day, lunch at Ben’s Bar in Paxos for fresh fish and beach views, whilst dinner at El Buli in Catalonia was the gastronomic event of a lifetime!

Apple or Android?

Apple is the dominant force in my world.
