Lucie Hirst Private Clients shares personal insights and experiences with anyone who may be currently working in or aspiring to join the London property industry.
What are you most proud of in your career?
I’m proud that clients come to me for clarity in high-stakes decisions, and that many relationships last well beyond a single transaction. The majority of my work now comes through client referrals.
I’m also proud that my children can see me building a career I genuinely enjoy. I want them to grow up understanding that success isn’t just about achievement, but about balance, integrity, and choosing work that energises you rather than drains you. If they’re proud of how I do what I do, that matters more than any deal.
First property job and how you got it?
I started in a junior role in residential agency at a large corporate firm. I learned by doing all the small jobs properly, the unglamorous but important ones. That grounding taught me how the whole machine works and ultimately gave me the confidence and capability to run my own business. Being in a corporate environment also allowed me to learn from some excellent people, which shaped my standards early on.
What motivates you?
Property is often the largest amount of money someone will ever spend, and with that comes an extraordinary level of trust. I’m motivated by helping clients make clear, well-judged decisions that shape how they live for years to come, and by the privilege of working with some extraordinarily interesting people along the way.
Best advice for preparing for an interview?
Do the work before you walk in. Understand the business, the market, and where you can genuinely add value. Confidence comes from preparation, not performance.
What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?
Listen more, learn from people who are better than you, and don’t rush to have all the answers.
Absorb everything you can, then trust your instincts when it’s time to decide.
Which leader, entrepreneur, founder, or CEO inspires you?
Anya Hindmarch. She’s built a globally recognised business through creativity, discipline, and long-term thinking, while also using her platform to drive meaningful change around sustainability. What I particularly admire, having read her book, is how deliberately she’s built her business around family values and balance, proving that ambition and personal priorities don’t have to be in conflict.
Your best deal?
The best deals are the ones where nothing dramatic happens. The client buys at the right level, understands the risks, and never feels rushed or exposed. Those outcomes don’t make headlines, but they are the best ones.
What’s your favourite restaurant?
The River Café. Timeless and delicious.
Apple or Android?
Apple.
