In this edition, Jon Byers Managing Director of Anderson Rose, shares personal insights and experiences with anyone who may be currently working in or aspiring to join the London property industry.

What are you most proud of in your career?

Building Anderson Rose from start up to a business that I am so proud to lead. 

First property job and how you got it?

14^th June 1999 - I started as a Trainee Negotiator at Hamptons Tower Bridge. At the time, Hamptons was running what it called the Fast Track Program which targeted Graduates with ambitions to be future leaders. That all chimed with my own ambitions and in fact if you look around the property industry now, there is evidence of it working. Rupert Dawes came to Hamptons under the same scheme and was a fierce competitor of mine as we vied for the top spot on the Neg Leagues each month! He has had a stellar career and is now the Global Head of Residential at Knight Frank.

What motivates you?

It might sound morbid but none of us have that long to achieve our dreams. I therefore try to not put off until tomorrow what can be done today. 

Best advice for preparing for an interview?

Be clear on the WHY. Why do you want this role and why are you the perfect candidate? 

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Believe in yourself more and be braver. 

Which leader, entrepreneur, founder, or CEO inspires you?

Sir Richard Branson and Ryan Serhant 

Your best deal?

The one when I used Land Registry and Facebook to locate the seller of a flat that my client specifically wanted to purchase. 

What’s your favourite restaurant?

Boneca Bar in Carvoeiro, Portugal.
