Welcome to our quick-fire spotlight on industry leaders and entrepreneurs in Property.

In this edition, Mark Wayne, Director of Wayne and Silver shares his personal insights and experiences with anyone who may be currently working in or aspiring to join the London property industry.

What are you most proud of in your career?

Watching my business grow organically, from a small office above a shop, to a shopfront and now to our flagship premises opposite Hampstead station has been an incredible journey. What I’m most proud of is the overall path we’ve taken and the amazing people who have helped us get here.

First property job and how you got it?

My first job was in West Hampstead in lettings, most likely I was underqualified and unprepared however I sold myself as determined and confident. It was a busy environment one which I soaked up a lot of experience and knowledge.

What motivates you?

In the early days, my biggest motivation came from proving wrong the agents who looked down on me as just a small one-dimensional agency, one they believed wouldn’t stand the test of time.

Today, my drive comes from working alongside a brilliant team of ambitious individuals and celebrating every deal we close for our clients. On a personal level, my family inspires me every day to give my absolute best.

Best advice for preparing for an interview?

This business is about relationships, sell yourself but also build a bond with the person interviewing you. It goes without saying, do you research on the company as you were already working there.

At the same time do not let your guard down when in the comfort zone.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

Not every step forward will feel like a win and that’s okay. Sometimes you must take losses to learn, to grow, and to build the resilience you’ll need for bigger victories later. Don’t chase speed, steady and consistent progress will carry you further than quick bursts and shortcuts. Trust the process, keep showing up, and remember: every “L” is just tuition for the school of life.

Which leader, entrepreneur, founder, or CEO inspires you?

One leader who inspires me is Warren Buffett. While his main focus has been investments rather than direct real estate development, his principles of long-term value, disciplined decision-making, and buying quality assets at the right price are directly relevant to the London property market. In a city where trends shift quickly, his philosophy reminds me to look beyond short-term gains and focus on properties, locations, and relationships that will stand the test of time. His journey from modest beginnings to becoming one of the world’s most respected investors shows that patience, integrity, and strategic thinking can build lasting success in any market.

Your best deal?

There have been quite a few, I’m not sure I can pick one, but I think the most rewarding deals are downsizing moves. Usually, the most complicated and emotion driven sales.

Holding hands and guiding through these types of deals always give me most satisfaction.

What’s your favourite restaurant?

The glass house at The Grove, all you can eat is always a winner!

Apple or Android?

I was a big Blackberry fan. The natural next step for me was Android, and I’ve stuck with it ever since.
