In this edition, Adam Harvey, Co-Founder & CEO of Harkalm, shares personal insights and experiences with anyone who may be currently working in or aspiring to join the London property industry.

What are you most proud of in your career?

I am most proud of building The Harkalm Group into the company it is today. While I am of course proud of the deals we’ve completed, what matters most to me is the culture and community we’ve created. We work with some of the most recognised brands in the world, and I believe we’ve redefined how relationships are built with our tenants — always striving to align ourselves with their needs and long-term success.

First property job and how you got it?

My first step into property came through a bit of luck and timing. My best friend’s dad had a connection with Jonathan Ross, then MD at Harman Healy, where I spent my placement year while at university. On graduating, I was offered a full-time role at their newly established auction house, Barnett Ross, which quickly grew into one of the largest independent property auctioneers in the UK. It was the perfect place to learn the business, and I owe a great deal to Jonathan Ross & John Barnett for giving me such a fantastic grounding and strong foundation.

What motivates you?

I am motivated by the freedom to think creatively, solve problems and find new ways to move the business forward. But above all, what drives me is seeing people achieve their potential. Supporting others, creating the right environment for them to grow and watching them reach their goals is one of the most rewarding parts of being a CEO.

Best advice for preparing for an interview?

Do your homework and turn up switched on - first impressions really do count! Make sure you know who you’re meeting, understand their background and look for areas of commonality. Interviews aren’t just about skills, they’re about connection and at the end of the day, people buy people.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

I’d tell myself not to worry so much and everything will be ok! I would remind myself to have the confidence to trust my gut, because following my instincts has so often led me in along the right path.

Which leader, entrepreneur, founder, or CEO inspires you?

Simon Sinek is an absolute genius. If you don’t know ‘Start With Why’ - it’s a game-changer.

Your best deal?

We’ve done hundreds of property deals and while one or two might stand out, the best deal I ever did was with my wife, Nicola Harvey. She’s been behind me from day one and remains the most important deal of my life.

What’s your favourite restaurant?

The Ledbury
